Both teach virtual assistance to Nigerians, and they are built for different people. Here is what each one actually is, what it costs, how it assesses you, and how to choose.
ALX Virtual Assistant Programme vs SchoolRegistry Academy: An Honest Comparison for Nigerians

ALX's Virtual Assistant programme is a ten-week self-paced online course at about 20 hours a week; sponsored learners pay a stated $5 a month and there is no fixed cohort. SchoolRegistry Academy's Virtual Assistant track is a ten-week cohort with one live class a week, tutor-marked assignments, a role simulation and a two-week practicum, at ₦200,000 with a two-instalment option. If you need the lowest possible cost and can hold yourself to a schedule, ALX. If you want assessed work, a tutor reading it and a verifiable record of what you can do, the Academy. This page is written by the Academy, so read the criteria and check them yourself.

What each programme actually is
ALX Africa's Virtual Assistant programme sits alongside its AI and Data, Creative and Entrepreneurship pathways. The programme page describes ten weeks at about 20 hours a week, self-paced, with a Start Now button rather than a cohort date. Sponsored learners pay a stated $5 a month; non-sponsored pricing varies and is not shown as a single figure. ALX's own aggregate figure for graduates across all programmes is over 347,000, continent-wide.
SchoolRegistry Academy's Virtual Assistant Certificate is a ten-week track: eight weeks of video lessons with quizzes that gate the next lesson, one live class a week, tutor-marked assignments, a role-specific Playground simulation of an executive's inbox and calendar, and a two-week practicum inside Brightline Office, a fictional workplace whose people and problems stay consistent from Week 1 to the final. The fee is ₦200,000, or two instalments of ₦100,000. Certification needs the published completion rules and an 80 percent overall result.
The two are not the same product with different prices. One is a self-paced course you complete; the other is an assessed programme you pass.

How to choose, honestly
Choose ALX if money is the binding constraint and you finish things on your own. Ten weeks at 20 hours a week is a real commitment, and self-paced means nobody chases you; ALX's price makes that trade-off worth it for many people.
Choose the Academy if you have tried self-paced courses before and did not finish, if you want someone to tell you what is wrong with your work, or if you want to walk into an interview with a verifiable record and a portfolio of graded work rather than a completion certificate. That is what the ₦200,000 buys: assessment and environment, not videos.
Do not choose either one on the strength of a job promise. Neither programme guarantees employment, and any course that does should be treated as a warning sign. Read our scam filter for remote jobs before you pay anyone anything.
What happens after each programme
After ALX, you hold a completion certificate and whatever portfolio you built yourself. After the Academy, you hold a certificate with a verification page, graded assignments and practicum work you can show, and access to the shared Career Readiness course. Eligible Academy graduates may also opt in to a reviewed profile presented to employers, with no guarantee of an interview or placement. The handbook states exactly what is and is not promised.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is ALX free?
Not quite. ALX's own page states $5 a month for sponsored learners on its All Access track; non-sponsored pricing varies by programme. Always check the live page before you plan around a number.
Can I do both?
Yes, and some people do: ALX for a low-cost first pass at the concepts, the Academy when they want assessed practice and a verifiable credential. They do not conflict.
Does either one get me a job?
No. Both teach skills. Hiring depends on your work, the employer's requirements and the roles available. Anyone promising otherwise is selling something else.
Which is better for a Nigerian with no experience?
The one you will finish. If you need structure and feedback to finish, that points to the Academy. If you are disciplined and cost is the constraint, ALX is the sensible start.
