A family clinic in Arizona has two doctors, a nurse, and a front desk that has not been fully staffed in a year. The phone rings forty times before lunch. Somebody has to answer it, book the appointment, check whether the insurance will pay, chase the prior authorisation, send the referral, and do all of it without ever once saying something that only a clinician may say or letting a patient's information go where it must not. That somebody used to sit at the front desk. Now, for a growing number of American practices, that somebody works remotely, and this course is built so that somebody can be you. This is the Virtual Medical Administrative Support course from SchoolRegistry Academy, and this first lesson is for two kinds of people. If you are deciding whether to enrol, it will tell you what the job really is, how much of it there is, what you will be able to do at the end, and exactly how the ten weeks run, so you decide with facts. If you have already enrolled, this is your orientation, everything to know before the healthcare primer that starts your course. Nothing here is graded. I am going to talk to you the way an experienced practice manager talks to a new hire: plainly, with real numbers, and with great respect for the lines this job must never cross. Let me start with the size of the market, and this one is unusual. The United States government publishes an outlook for every occupation, and for secretaries and administrative assistants as a whole it expects the numbers to fall over the coming decade. Medical secretaries are the exception. They are projected to grow by five percent, about forty-seven thousand new positions on top of the people who leave, because the American population is getting older, clinics are getting busier, and every visit generates scheduling, insurance and paperwork that somebody must handle. The median pay for a US medical secretary or administrative assistant is just under forty-six thousand dollars a year. Remote rates from Nigeria are different and I will not quote you one, but that figure tells you what the skill is worth to an American practice, and practices now hire this role remotely because they cannot fill the front desk locally. In the United Kingdom, the government's careers service puts a medical secretary between twenty-three and thirty thousand pounds. And every month, more than five thousand people in the United States search for medical administrative assistant jobs, with thousands more searching for medical scheduler and remote medical receptionist roles. This is a growing field with a shortage in it, and the thing that separates the people who get hired from the people who do not is whether they can be trusted with patient information and with the limits of the role. That is what this course is about. Here is what the course covers. It starts with a mandatory healthcare primer, because you cannot work a clinic's desk without understanding how American care and insurance work, and without understanding the privacy law that governs every message you will ever send about a patient. Weeks 1 and 2 are the remote front desk: patient communication on the phone and in writing, scheduling, and conflict resolution when the calendar and the patient disagree. Weeks 3 and 4 are insurance: checking whether a patient is eligible and what their plan covers, reading the response and explaining it to the patient within your scope, and then prior authorisation, the process by which an insurer agrees to pay for a treatment before it happens, from the first request to the follow-up call. Weeks 5 and 6 are referrals, records requests and NorthChart, the fictional clinic system you will work in, and then the privacy decisions: what you may release, to whom, with what authority, and what you do when something goes wrong, because in this job an incident reported quickly is a procedure and an incident hidden is a career. Weeks 7 and 8 are money and integration: claim status, patient balances and payment handling within scope, then a full week running the fictional clinic's desk with everything arriving at once. After that come the two practicum weeks. The whole course works on one fictional clinic in NorthChart, so by the end you know its providers, its patients and its policies like a real employer's. Now the outcome, and you should hold us to it. When you finish, you will be able to run the remote front desk of a US clinic: answer and write to patients in a way that is warm and correct, schedule with the right provider, the right visit type and the right length, and resolve the conflicts that a busy calendar produces. You will verify a patient's insurance eligibility and benefits, read what comes back, and explain it within your scope. You will chase a prior authorisation from request to decision and know what to do when it is denied. You will send referrals, handle records requests, and release information only to the people who have the authority to receive it, with the right form on file. You will check claim status and handle patient balances and payments within the rules. And you will know, at every step, where the job stops: you never interpret a result, never advise on treatment, never tell a patient what a medication does, never share a patient's information with anyone who has not been verified, and when you are asked to, you know the words that route the question to a clinician and keep the patient calm. Each of these is a lesson with a practice scenario in NorthChart, and each is graded in the practicum, so when you tell a practice you can do it, you will have done it, with the record to show. The mechanics, so nothing surprises you. There are four study days a week with short video lessons, each around ten minutes, and a short quiz under every lesson. Pass the quiz and the next lesson unlocks; your best score is the one that counts, and retrying never lowers it. Alongside the lessons is NorthChart, the Academy&#

What will you learn in virtual medical administrative support training?

SchoolRegistry Academy’s Virtual Medical Administrative Support course is a ten-week specialist online programme for beginners and career changers in Nigeria. First, students complete the Academy foundation and a mandatory healthcare primer: the words of US healthcare, two identifiers before any disclosure, minimum necessary and approved channels. Second, students practise patient communication, scheduling, eligibility verification, prior authorization packets, referrals and records requests, claim status calls and payment routing on NorthChart, a fictional clinic system with role-based access and an audit trail. Third, tutor-reviewed assignments, six practicum shifts and live role plays create evidence of applied front-desk judgment. Certification requires the published completion rules, full tuition coverage and an 80% overall result, with zero critical privacy errors in the practicum. The course does not promise employment, does not teach clinical work or medical coding, and is not a HIPAA or vendor certification.

A good fit if you…

  • You can follow a rule exactly, every time, even when a caller is upset and pushing you to make an exception.
  • You are calm on the phone, clear in writing, and comfortable telling someone that a question is for the nurse or the doctor, not for you.
  • You can keep what you see in a patient record to yourself, completely, and treat every record as sensitive by default.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Good questions.
Straight answers.

Do I need a medical background?+

No. The mandatory healthcare primer teaches the words of US healthcare and the privacy rules from the start. What you need is care, calm on the phone, and the discipline to follow a job aid exactly.

Will I be giving medical advice or reading clinical notes?+

No, and the course is built around that boundary. Nothing clinical is decided by the assistant. Clinical questions route to the nurse or the doctor; the course teaches exactly how to say so and how to document it.

What is NorthChart?+

A fictional clinic system built by the Academy for training: scheduling, records, eligibility, referrals and records requests, with real role-based access and an audit trail. It resets, so mistakes are safe and the consequences are still real.

Why is this track priced differently?+

It is a specialist track: a healthcare primer on top of the Academy foundation, eight specialist weeks, and a two-week practicum on a purpose-built clinic system with tutor role plays. The fee covers the whole ten weeks, in full or in two installments.

Is there a certificate at the end?+

Yes. A SchoolRegistry Academy certificate with a unique ID and a public verification page is issued when the published completion rules are met, including the practicum with zero critical errors. It is not a clinical or coding credential.

When does the cohort begin?+

October 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM WAT (Nigeria). Each track has one live class a week; the day is confirmed in your enrollment information.

Is a job guaranteed?+

No. The Academy develops and assesses skills. Employment depends on your performance, employer requirements, and available roles.

What does the fee include?+

₦250,000 covers this track. You can pay in full or in two ₦125,000 installments, with the balance due three weeks later. Review the handbook and checkout terms before paying.
