The private share is high because private schools are more consistently listed in the public records we ingest, not because government schools are rarer on the ground. Treat this as a measure of our coverage.

Fees: we hold a figure for 9,137 schools, of which 8,947 are an estimated band rather than a fee quoted by the school. We show fees as ranges for that reason, and confirming with the school is still the only way to know what you will pay. Counts generated from the register on 2026-10-02.

How this ranking is made

What WAEC publishes

National and state-level pass rates each session. WAEC does not publish a pass rate for each school, so no ranking of Nigerian schools, ours included, can be a direct reading of official school-level results. Anyone presenting one as such is not showing you where it came from.

What we use instead

Results a school publishes itself or submits to us, results reported in the education press, and the performance bands our editors assign from both. Bands are wide on purpose: the evidence supports saying a school sits in the nineties, not that it scored 93.4%.

What this is not

Not a league table of every school in Nigeria. It covers schools with a public record strong enough to assess, which favours larger and better-documented schools. A school missing from the list has not been judged and found wanting; it has not been assessed.

Use the ranking to build a shortlist, then ask each school directly for its own WAEC results from the last three sessions. A school confident in its record will show you. That single question tells a parent more than any ranking, this one included.

Common questions about this ranking

How were the best schools in Delta chosen?

On JAMB performance among schools in Delta with a public record strong enough to assess. It covers the schools we can evidence, not every school in the state.

What should I check before choosing a school in Delta?

Ask the school for its own results from the last three sessions, and ask how many of its final-year cohort it entered for the examination as well as how many passed. A school that enters only its strongest students posts a better rate than one entering everybody, and that difference appears in no published figure. Then ask what the full year costs, including levies, uniforms and transport, rather than what tuition costs.

Where do these rankings come from?

From results schools publish themselves or submit to us, results reported in the education press, and the performance bands our editors assign from both. WAEC and JAMB do not publish results school by school in Nigeria, so no ranking of Nigerian schools, ours included, is a direct reading of official school-level results.

Why bands instead of exact percentages?

Because the evidence supports saying a school sits in the nineties, not that it scored 93.4%. A precise figure would look more authoritative and be less true. Where a school publishes its own exact results we show those and say they came from the school.

My school is not listed. Why?

The list covers schools with a public record strong enough to assess, which favours larger and better documented schools. A school missing from it has not been judged and found wanting, it has not been assessed. If you run the school, send us your results and we will add them, marked as submitted by the school.
