JAMB rankings FAQ
Are these official rankings?
JAMB does not publish official school-level rankings. SchoolRegistry presents this as an independent planning index from public signals and verified school submissions where available.
How should parents use this?
Use it as one signal alongside fees, location, safety, boarding, and admission support.
Can schools update evidence?
Yes. Schools should claim their profile and submit current verified records.
Nigeria on the register
SchoolRegistry data, 2026-10-02
38,124 schools across 36 states and the FCT, 33,601 of them with a mapped location. These are counts from our own register rather than estimates, so they measure what is recorded, not what exists.
Where the schools are
Ten largest states by schools on the register
Values are counts of schools on the SchoolRegistry register.
Counted from the register on 2026-10-02. State totals move when a new source is ingested, so this is a picture of coverage rather than a census.
What kind of schools
Education level mix in Nigeria
- secondary
- 51%
- nursery
- 24%
- primary
- 24%
- university
- 1%
- professional
- 0%
Share of the 38,124 schools we hold for Nigeria, by the level each one is recorded at.
Private or government
Ownership mix in Nigeria
- private
- 76%
- government
- 24%
- specialized
- 0%
The private share is high because private schools are more consistently listed in the public records we ingest, not because government schools are rarer on the ground. Treat this as a measure of our coverage.
Fees: we hold a figure for 9,137 schools, of which 8,947 are an estimated band rather than a fee quoted by the school. We show fees as ranges for that reason, and confirming with the school is still the only way to know what you will pay. Counts generated from the register on 2026-10-02.
How this ranking is made
What WAEC publishes
National and state-level pass rates each session. WAEC does not publish a pass rate for each school, so no ranking of Nigerian schools, ours included, can be a direct reading of official school-level results. Anyone presenting one as such is not showing you where it came from.
What we use instead
Results a school publishes itself or submits to us, results reported in the education press, and the performance bands our editors assign from both. Bands are wide on purpose: the evidence supports saying a school sits in the nineties, not that it scored 93.4%.
What this is not
Not a league table of every school in Nigeria. It covers schools with a public record strong enough to assess, which favours larger and better-documented schools. A school missing from the list has not been judged and found wanting; it has not been assessed.
Use the ranking to build a shortlist, then ask each school directly for its own WAEC results from the last three sessions. A school confident in its record will show you. That single question tells a parent more than any ranking, this one included.
Common questions about this ranking
What was the highest JAMB score in 2026?
We do not publish a highest score or a list of top scorers, because we do not hold individual candidate results and neither does any site that claims to. JAMB releases aggregate statistics each year and the highest scorers are usually named in the press after the board announces them. Treat any ranked list of named candidates you find online as journalism at best and invention at worst, and check it against JAMB's own announcement.
What counts as a good UTME score?
It depends entirely on the course and the institution rather than on a national figure. The national minimum admission mark is far below what competitive courses actually require: medicine, law, pharmacy and engineering at the older federal universities routinely need scores in the 250s and above, while many courses admit comfortably below 200. The number that matters is your target institution's cut-off for your course.
Which universities take the highest JAMB scores?
The older federal universities draw the highest scores because they are cheapest and most sought after, so the competition sets the bar rather than the institution. That means the same score opens different doors at different schools, which is the argument for building a shortlist across several institutions rather than aiming at one.
Where do these rankings come from?
From results schools publish themselves or submit to us, results reported in the education press, and the performance bands our editors assign from both. WAEC and JAMB do not publish results school by school in Nigeria, so no ranking of Nigerian schools, ours included, can be a direct reading of official school-level results. Anyone presenting one as such is not showing you where it came from.
Why bands instead of exact percentages?
Because the evidence supports saying a school sits in the nineties, not that it scored 93.4%. A precise figure would look more authoritative and be less true. Where a school publishes its own exact results we will show those and say they came from the school.
My school is not listed. Why?
The list covers schools with a public record strong enough to assess, which favours larger and better documented schools. A school missing from it has not been judged and found wanting, it has not been assessed. If you run the school, send us your results and we will add them, marked as submitted by the school.
