German for beginners (A1)

Starter lessons for complete beginners, written in English for learners in West and East Africa. They cover the first steps toward A1. Speaking German, and anything beyond A1, needs a teacher or a class.

Lessons and exercises

A short lesson in English with the key German phrases, then twelve exercises marked straight away.

Speaking practice

Read two sentences aloud and answer three simple questions in German. An AI teacher gives feedback on pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary and grammar. Costs one credit.

Listen and type

Hear six German sentences and type them. You can use ae, oe, ue and ss if you do not have the letters with dots.

Independent starter lessons. Not affiliated with the Goethe-Institut or telc. Speaking German and going beyond A1 needs a teacher.

Learn German from A1, with healthcare vocabulary for nurses

Many nurses who plan to work in Germany start with A1. Boarding Pass has starter German units with listening and speaking practice, and vocabulary for the ward and the patient bedside.

The speaking practice is marked by an AI assessor and is an estimate. It is practice for the Goethe-style A1 level, not an official result, and the Goethe-Institut sets its own exams and fees.

SchoolRegistry Boarding Pass is independent test preparation. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by IDP, the British Council, Cambridge, Duolingo, the OET partnership or the Goethe-Institut. Scores are estimates, not official results.
