Data Analyst Certificate

A ten-week certificate course in junior data analysis: reading a request properly, cleaning the export without touching the raw file, pivot tables that reconcile to the invoice total, SQL you can explain out loud, charts whose title is the finding, and dashboards in Looker Studio and Power BI. Taught on Google Sheets, Excel and a SQL sandbox, with one fictional marketing agency, Bluewick Studio, whose nine clients and six requesters stay consistent all course.

What you will learn

Your curriculum

Week 1: What a data analyst actually does

The request and the decision it serves; metric, dimension and KPI; Bluewick Studio and the people who will ask you for numbers; the one-page report; precision and sanity checks; the spreadsheet habits that keep a sheet readable.

Week 2: Cleaning data without breaking it

Text, numbers, dates and booleans; blanks, zeros and nulls; duplicates and which row wins; dates across time zones; lookups; data validation; the cleaning log; raw, staging, final.

Week 3: Summarising: averages, rates, pivots and trends

When the average lies; rates and ratios; the outlier that is a typo; pivot tables and the four common views; totals that must reconcile; month over month and the seasonal trap; cohorts; benchmarks and where the number came from.

Week 4: SQL: reading the database behind the CRM

Tables, rows and keys; SELECT, FROM, WHERE; GROUP BY and HAVING; dates; JOIN and the rows that disappear on a bad LEFT JOIN; pulling the same number two ways; a query someone else can read; the query library.

Week 5: Charts and dashboards

Bar, line, table; when a pie chart is wrong; axes and the chart that exaggerated a dip; title as the finding; colour and accessibility; Looker Studio and Power BI; sharing without leaking a client's numbers.

Week 6: The weekly report and the honest summary

Sales, marketing, support and finance questions; variance against plan; the two-paragraph summary; bad news without softening it; correlation is not cause; presenting to a director who reads on a phone; the questions you will get.

Week 7: Data you must protect, and requests you must push back on

Personal data in your spreadsheets; the US state privacy overview and the NDPA; access and what you never share; health and payment data; repeatable cleaning and Python in Colab; raising an error in someone else's number; the misleading chart you refuse to make.

Week 8: Working with requesters, and the capstone

The intake template; estimating effort; the data dictionary; handing over a dashboard; working with engineers; the junior analyst portfolio; the take-home task; interview questions answered with your own work; remote analyst work from Nigeria; the capstone brief.

Week 9: Practicum, part one

Timed shifts on the Bluewick analyst desk: requests arrive from Imani, Kofi and Anjali, exports come with problems, the Friday freeze is real, and every number you send is checked against the source.

Week 10: Practicum, part two

More shifts including a downtime drill, a bad week you must report honestly, a request you must refuse as asked, and a tutor-marked capstone. Passing needs zero critical errors.
